Dr. Alysia Hoover-Thompson

Chief of Behavioral Health

Dr. Hoover-Thompson is a licensed psychologist and the Chief of Behavioral Health for HCCH. She has a bachelor’s in physics and cultural anthropology from Mount Holyoke College and a master’s in community counseling and a doctorate in counseling psychology, both from Radford University. Her pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral training were at a rural, Federally Qualified Health Center in southwest Virginia, where she worked for six years before joining HCCH in 2018.


In addition to her professional role, she is an item writer for the professional licensure exam in psychology (EPPP; Part 2- Skills) and serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Rural Mental Health. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, hiking with her goldendoodle, drinking fancy coffee and traveling.
