Dr. Kendra Back

Family Nurse Practitioner

Dr. Kendra Back is a Family and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who joined High Country Community Health in Avery in March 2025. Kendra began her nursing career in 1987 as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), and over the years, she pursued further education. She earned her Registered Nurse (RN) license in 2000, became a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) in 2012, and completed her Doctorate in 2021.


After obtaining her FNP, Kendra began working in federally qualified health centers, where she has developed a passion for providing comprehensive, patient-centered care.

Kendra and her husband relocated to the area to be closer to family. Together, they are proud parents of five children and grandparents to eight grandchildren. Their home is also shared with three dogs, three cats, and two sulcata tortoises.


In her free time, Kendra enjoys spending time with family, cooking, hiking, and reading.
